Statement of PhilWEN Chair & PBCWE Co-Chair Boots Garcia on the Philippines’ Ranking in the 2018 WEF Global Gender Gap Report

We welcome the results of the 2018 World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap Report, ranking the Philippines 8th in the world, rising from the 10th spot last year. We also celebrate the results as the Philippines is recognized as the only country from Southeast Asia in the Top 10.

We at the Philippine Women’s Economic Network (PhilWEN) and the Philippine Business Coalition for Women Empowerment (PBCWE) seek to economically empower more women to take on leadership roles in business and society. We believe that all institutions, public or private, benefit fully from diversity in all ranks and a culture that provides equal opportunity to all.

While we celebrate our improved ranking, we remain cognizant that there is more work to do. We hope that the positive results of this report will continue to inspire various organizations to work together to eliminate institutional and cultural gender stereotypes, close the gender gap, and break barriers that prevent women from contributing to society and the economy.
